Oaktree College
Our referral process in detail:
Stage 1:
Initial consult from SEN team will ideally include the following:
- EHCP (Including most recent annual review).
- Any relevant section K reports.
- Contact details of relevant professionals (SEN Caseworker, CAMHS, YOT etc).
- Permission to contact parents/carers and previous setting.
Referrals without all relevant information will still be considered. However, the process may take longer.
Stage 2:
Internal OES review of referral to determine if we can move to an assessment. We will provide feedback within 7 days of receipt of the initial referral.
- If we feel we can meet need – Proceed through assessment process.
- If we cannot meet need – We will outline the reasons for this and can signpost to more appropriate service providers if appropriate.
Stage 3:
To enable us to develop the appropriate provision that suits the needs and ambitions of each learner we undertake the following steps during the assessment process.
Prior to Placement:
- Initial phone call with parent/carer to discuss strengths, areas that need support and potential aspirations or interests.
- Student and Key adult will visit the centre for tour and chance to meet the team. During this visit, we will discuss aspirations, goals and ways we can best support the student to succeed.
- Contact previous setting to ascertain what strategies were helpful/unhelpful. This helps us to begin to develop an individual Responsive Co-Regulation Plan for each student.
During this time, we may also request any reports/information that was not included in initial referral.
Placement Begins:
Once a student begins to attend Marsh Lane, we will complete a full needs assessment to ensure that we can provide the best opportunities possible for each individual. This needs assessment includes the following:
- Responsive Co-Regulation Plan (developed with the student).
- Boxall Profile.
- Baseline Academic assessment.
- Individual Learning Plan.
- Individual risk assessment.
End of Assessment:
By the end of our assessment period (usually 3 months/1 term), we will:
- Request an Annual review to be held to ensure that needs are being fully met.
- Produce end of assessment report (detailing, attendance, engagement, and progress as well as any incident data if applicable).
